Founded in 2013 by local artist Patricia Fagerland, Forsythea is proud to call downtown Astoria, Oregon home. We bought Forsythea in November 2022 and are excited to continue our family’s long connection to Astoria. My great-grandparents were born in Norway and settled in Uppertown Astoria over a century ago, in 1920. Generations of the family worked in the local canneries. My grandma witnessed the 1922 Astoria fire, growing up in the house next door to the Goonies house. My great-grandparents later lived across the street from the school in Kindergarten Cop. My grandfather was a commercial fisherman, moving from Bellingham, WA to Astoria in the 1930s. He pioneered the local dragnet fishing industry and owned a warehouse on the 9th Street pier, where the Bowline Hotel annex is today, and a seafood company in Warrenton. My mom and grandma graduated from Astoria High School, and my great aunts were long-time schoolteachers. My parents were married in Astoria and my dad was pastor at a local Lutheran church.
Forsythea is located at 1124 Commercial Street, on U.S. Highway 30 in the heart of historic downtown Astoria, just 2 blocks from the Astoria Riverwalk and the Astoria Riverfront Trolley, and just 1 mile east of the iconic Astoria bridge (Highway 101). The store is open 7 days a week, from 11am-5pm (11-4 on Sundays), or shop online anytime.
